Work Weekend Photos - Sept. 25th-26th

Beautiful autumn weather & fall foliage! The American Flag flying once again on the tower! Babies, seniors, dogs of all shapes & sizes - a group of boy scouts from Glens Falls - a dozen Japanese tourists from Toronto! More than 200 visitors on Saturday, September 25th, and 334 signed the register on Sunday, September 26th!!! Just a typical fall day on this very popular summit three miles north of Old Forge, NY.
Friends of Bald Mountain volunteers from Rochester, East Herkimer, Eagle Bay & Old Forge got into the nitty-gritty work this past weekend attaching the security fencing along all the steps & platforms and repairing two concrete footers. Bob W. added the remaining bolts to the cab floor. Larry C. replaced rusted wire on the top two landings with custom-cut angle iron. Dozens of summit visitors graciously picked up boards or garbage bags of debris and hauled them down to a pickup station near the parking lot. And . . . offered lots of words of appreciation to the crew.

He returned for a full workday on Monday to complete the wiring of the security fence. About 100 more climbers were up visiting including 20 art students from a nearby high school sketching the tower. What a great idea for a field trip!!  Photos above by A. Spaziano & P. Masters
