Main Cottage - Little Tupper Lake Boathouse at Little Tupper Lake

8-mile long Little Tupper Lake is the largest held privately-owned lake east of the Mississippi. Surrounded by 15,000 acres of pristine wilderness, it is part of the 51,000 acre Whitney Estate owned by MaryLou Whitney. Now this little jewel in the heart of the Adirondacks has been saved by NYS for public use such as hiking, fishing and other recreational purposes. The property, located in Hamilton County in the town of Long Lake, was turned over to the State June 1st. The 15,000 acre site, which includes 42 lakes and ponds, is key to re-establishing historic canoe routes from Little Tupper Lake to Tupper Lake via Round Lake, and will connect Lake Lila and the Bog River Flow. The carry to Lake Lila is incomplete as of now, but several hiking trails are accessible from the parking area and a non-motorized boat launch. Information can be obtained from the DEC office onsite.
